WhatsApp: How to Use the Advanced Search Feature

Facebook-owned WhatsApp gets regular updates with added features for enhanced user experience. Following the same, the giant has lately rolled out a new advanced search mode feature for its Android users. Here’s more on how you can get the advanced search mode in WhatsApp on your phone.
Since the feature is new, you could accidentally do something that you’ll definitely regret later. The new WhatsApp search tool is easy to use, but it doesn’t hurt to read up on some tips before using it, right?
How to Get the Most out of WhatsApp’s New Search FeatureIf you have no idea what conversation the file you’re looking for is in, you can do a general search. To do that, open WhatsApp and tap on the magnifying glass option at the top. The app will show you option such as:
PhotosVideosLinksGIFsAudioDocuments
For example, let’s say you’re looking for an audio. Tap on the audio option, and WhatsApp will show you all the audios you’ve received, starting with the most recent. Searching for the audio this way can’t take a lot of time. To speed things up a little, type the name of the person that sent you the audio. After typing a few letters, the app will group together all the audios from that person.
But, at the top, WhatsApp will give you the option to chose from different names. Since you’re looking for an audio, you’ll see options such as From John or From Sara. Tap on the name you think the audio you need is in to see them all.
Things get slightly different when you’re looking for files such as photos and GIFs since it shows you more information. For example, if you’re looking for a picture, you can see who the picture was from by changing the layout by tapping on the top’s layout icon.
As you can see from the image above, you’ll see the name along with the GIF the other person sent, but you’ll also see the ones you sent as well.
How to Search for Files on for a Specific WhatsApp ContactTo find a file from a particular contact, tap on the search option at the top. Type the name of the contact, and at the bottom, WhatsApp will show the latest messages from the contact, and in the middle or top, you’ll see the type of files you can search for.
For example, if you want to look for a specific image from that contact, tap on the Photos option. The first image you’ll see will be the latest one you received or sent that contact. Since you already know who the file is from, it’s best to see the images as big as possible since it’s easier to read when those images were sent.

Android: How to Create Digital Invitations

You can create electronic invitations using special applications. Universal editors allow you to prepare your original publication and individual invitation ticket. At the same time, you do not need to spend a lot of time and resources.
How to Make a Fantastic Digital Invitation – Android
An app with great designs for your invitation is Invitation Maker & Card Design by Greetings Island. When you first open the app, you can choose from themes such as:
ChristmasHalloweenBirthday
You get designs for all these events with one app, and that’s only the invitation tab list. There’s another tab where you can also create greetings cards as well. Let’s say that you’re going to invite some friends over to a pool party.
After tapping on that event, you’ll need to choose a design from a large variety of options. You’ll see that there’s a heart under each design. By tapping the heart, you’re letting the app know that it’s one of your favorites. To access your favorite designs, tap on the profile icon at the top right. All the designs you selected will be there.
Editing Your InvitationWhen you first open the app, you won’t see any editing options. Tap on the text to edit, and then you can erase the already existing text, Replace the text, change the font style, Modify the size/color, or align it.
With the fonts you can choose from, the app will show you a preview of what the font looks like before using it. That way you can decide if it’s the one you’re looking for. The size is straightforward to adjust since you can use a slider to find the perfect size.
When choosing a color for your text, the app doesn’t let you create your own color, but there are quite a few options to choose from. At first, the app will only show you five colors, but tap on the dots for more options.
You can move the text anywhere you want on the invitation, but it’s not possible to move the items around. If the invitation could use a few more stickers, there’s an option to add more, and you can even upload your own logo or image. Once you’re done editing your invitation, tap on the Next button at the top right. You can save your image, share it right from the app, or you can print it.

Mint for Android: How to Change the User-Agent

To work with this addon, please open the toolbar popup and click on the desired user-agent button. Within the toolbar popup, the top row is for mobile user-agents, 2nd row is for desktop user-agents and the last row is for selecting operating systems. Once you select a user-agent, please reload all tabs.
One of the many pieces of metadata your browser sends to webservers when making requests as part of the request headers is a “user-agent”. The user-agent is a string that can be used to identify the type of device making the request. It generally identifies the rough operating system running and the name of the browser.
There is no particular standard for what value the user-agent should have, or what it should be used for. By convention, the user-agent provides information about the user’s device and this data is generally used to help replicate any bugs in how the website is displayed.
Some users may not be comfortable with their browser advertising this data about what operating system and browser they are using and so may want to change the user-agent string. Most desktop browsers have a way to override the user-agent with a different pre-set or custom string. Few mobile browsers offer a similar feature. One browser that does is the Mint browser on Android.
To change the user-agent, you need to go through the in-app settings. To be able to do so, you first need to tap the triple-dot icon in the top-right corner of the app.
Next, to open the settings themselves, tap the cogwheel icon in the top-left corner of the drop-down menu.
Once in the settings list, scroll down and tap “Advanced”, which will be the fifth option from the bottom.
In the advanced settings, tap the bottom-most option “User agent string” to open the user-agent selection menu. In this menu you can choose to use the default “Android” user-agent string, a user-agent that says you’re using a desktop operating system, or one that matches an iPhone or iPad.
Simply tap your preferred user-agent and it will be used for any future web requests.
Note: It’s unfortunately not currently possible to create entirely custom user-agent strings in the Mint browser.

Mint for Android: How to Configure the Ad-Blocker

One of the key points of the browser is that it includes a built-in ad-blocker. Not all users may want this enabled at all times though. Thankfully for those times and users, you can disable it rather easily.

Adverts can be intrusive in both overt and subtle ways. The most obvious intrusive adverts are the ones that overlay large portions of the content of the website, forcing you to close the advert manually. These types of ads are designed to ensure that the reader sees them and to increase the change that you accidentally click on them through the use of tiny buttons to close the ad. Advertisements that include sound on websites that generally don’t use sound are also excessively intrusive.

Behaviour tracking is a subtle part of the intrusive behaviour of adverts. Advertising companies use cookies and other tracking scripts with all of their adverts to monitor your browsing activity. Your browsing data is used to create an “Interest profile” that is then used to target future adverts to you and your interests. The aim of this is to increase the chance that you click on an ad and buy a product because you’re being shown adverts based on your “Interests”. The scale of the tracking can give the advertising companies an unprecedented level of insight into your life.

An ad-blocker allows you to be free of the intrusive nature of adverts and can speed up your browsing experience. Ad-blockers work by identifying web requests for adverts and then prevent your browser from ever requesting the advert. This means you save the extra data and time it would take to download the advert that you don’t want to see. blocking the advert from downloading also prevents the tracking elements from being able to track your browsing activity, giving you more privacy.

How to configure the ad-blocker in the Mint browserThe Mint browser on Android includes a built-in ad-blocker that can be configured via the in-app settings. To be able to access the in-app settings, you first need to tap the triple-dot icon in the top-right corner of the app.

To be toggle the ad-blocker on and off, you can tap “Block ads” in the centre of the drop-down menu.

To open the settings, to configure the ad-blocker, tap the cogwheel icon in the top-left corner of the drop-down menu.

In the settings, tap “Advanced” the fifth option from the bottom.

In the advanced options, the three ad-blocker options are in the top sub-section. “Ad blocker” simply toggles the ad-blocker on and off. “Show Ad blocker notifications” toggles if the alert bubble appears in the top-left corner of the app to show you how many ads were blocked on the page. “Clear ad blocker history” allows you to clear the count of total ads blocked by the ad-blocker.

Also, the ads and links on Mint.com are for internal up-sells, so if you never planned to buy any kind of subscription through Mint.com anyway, they’re not going to lose any money by you hiding this junk out of view. This is different than the ads on most websites where they get paid to simply display them in your browser.

Spotify: How to Search for a Song by Its Lyrics

We’ve all been there. Suddenly, we have song lyrics stuck in our head that just won’t go away. Maybe it’s an earworm from a long forgotten tune from our childhood. Or it’s from something you recently heard on the radio. But just what the heck is the name of that song? Modern technology has brought us all a solution to this problem. Thanks to The Verge we’ve learned that you can now skip going right to Google for lyrics. Instead you can search for a particular song by its lyrics on Spotify on iOS and Android.
It’s happened to all of us. You’re going about your day, and all of a sudden, you hear a song you like. If you’re lucky, you can guess the name of the song to later add it to your Spotify playlist. But, most of the time, you might end up typing what you remember of the lyrics in Google.
There’s good news for Spotify users since you can now type those lyrics directly into Spotify instead of Google. Spotify can now give you possible matches to the song you’re looking for. Don’t worry, using this new feature is easier than you think.
How to Look for a Song by Lyrics in SpotifyRight after opening Spotify, tap on the search option at the bottom. But, instead of typing the name of the song, type what you remember of the lyrics. If Spotify finds anything that matches what you typed, it’ll appear in the search results.
Right below the song’s name, the app things you’re looking for, you’ll see how the song is labeled Lyrics Match. After that, it’s all about hearing the suggested results since different songs could share those words.
As soon as you find the song, tap on it for the app to start playing it. If it’s the song you’re looking for, all you need to do is add it to the right playlist.
ConclusionThanks to this feature, you won’t have to rush to open Shazam or a similar to get the song’s name. All you need to do is try to remember a few words of the lyrics, and your good to go. Hopefully, in future updates, Spotify will include the option for the app itself to recognize the song and ask you what playlist you want to add it to.

How to care for your Laptop Charger

Laptops are made to be portable, that means the laptop battery life lasts for up to six or seven hours before you need to be charge again. Therefore, it is likely that you will need your laptop charger all times to give power supply to your laptop, also which is commonly known as an AC Adapter Charger. Laptops are designed to be portable, meaning that the average laptop battery life lasts for up to six hours before needing to be charged again. Therefore, it is more than likely that you will need to keep your laptop charger, also commonly known as an AC adapter, with you at all times to give your laptop the top up it needs.
Unfortunately, throughout our travels, our laptop charger can become damaged by getting wrapped up too tightly, stuffed into a small laptop case, stepped on, yanked apart, and more.
There are, however, ways in which you can reduce the casualties your laptop charger faces and maximise its lifespan. Here are a few simple ways to care for your AC adapter.
Handling your laptop charger
A lot of people tend to leave their laptop chargers lying around when they have no use for it. Your laptop charger should not be exposed to hot or freezing cold temperatures. An example is leaving your charger in the seat of your car all day long. Another important care tip to remember is to not get your charger wet or expose it to harmful chemicals as this will damage the charger. When you are not using the laptop charger, store it away in your laptop bag. If you do not have a laptop bag, then other solutions can include a small box or pouch. Do not, however, wrap the cord too tightly or place the charger on top of the laptop. Applied pressure will result in your screen breaking.
Faulty power outlets
At all times, you must avoid faulty power outlets when using your charger. Faulty power outlets are those that are not protected by a circuit breaker. If you plug your charger into a faulty power circuit to charge your laptop, the high voltage will go directly through your charger which can burn it and cause major damage to your laptop.
Get a backup
It’s always handy to have a plan B, and the same goes for having a spare laptop charger in case of an emergency. Battery chargers vary depending on the model and brand of the laptop, we have created a very easy to use search wizard to help you identify and find the perfect laptop charger for the make and model of your laptop.

Help! My Android is Stuck in Safe Mode

Even though putting your phone in Safe Mode isn’t very hard, it’s not always clear how to get your device out of it. That can be very frustrating, particularly for those who aren’t intimately familiar with their devices.
For those who are stuck in Safe Mode for whatever reason, fear not! Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to turn off Safe Mode on your Android device.
1. Power Completely OffPower completely down by pressing and holding the “Power” button, then select “Power off“. Do NOT select “Restart” or “Reboot”. Many Android devices will stay in Safe Mode if you select “Restart” or “Reboot”.
Once the device is powered off, wait about 2 minutes, then turn the device back on.
2. Check For Stuck ButtonsThis is the most common cause for being stuck in Safe Mode. Safe Mode is usually enabled by pressing and holding a button while the device is starting. Common buttons you would hold are the volume up, volume down, or menu buttons. If one of these buttons are stuck or the device is defective and registers a button is being pressed, it will continue to start in Safe Mode.
Ensure none of the buttons are held down by a foreign object or an accessory. Remove the device out of its case to be sure that’s not the cause. Give each button on the device a push to test out if they stick in any way. You may need to clean the buttons with a damp cloth in some cases.
3. Battery Pull (If Possible)If a simple power down doesn’t do the trick, pull the battery if you own an Android device with a removable battery. Wait about a minute or two before inserting the battery back into the compartment and powering the device back on.
4. Uninstall Recently Installed AppsIf the above options didn’t work, a recently installed app may be causing the device to start in Safe Mode. Open “Settings” > “Apps” and uninstall any recently updated or installed apps, then power the device off and restart.
5. Wipe Cache Partition (Dalvik Cache)The Android OS stores data in a cache partition. That data can sometimes cause your Android to endlessly be in Safe Mode. Steps for clearing the cache partition can vary with each device. Consult the documentation provided with your device about how to enter Recovery Mode.
6. Factory ResetIf you have tried and tried again to get your phone out of Safe Mode using the steps above, you may want to factory reset your Android. This can be done by going to “Settings” > “Backup & reset”. This will clear all data off of the device and set it back to its factory default state. This is an unfortunate last resort if your problem cannot be solved otherwise.
7. Hardware IssueIf you have tried all of the above attempts to fix your Android, you are most likely looking at a hardware issue with your device. It’s possible the mechanism that controls one of the buttons is broken. It could also be some other internal hardware issue. At this point, your best bet is to contact your carrier or the device manufacturer for a replacement.
