Apple Takes No Risks With New M4 MacBook Air
A short day after the relatively quiet announcements of the iPad 11 and iPad Air 7, Apple officially launches the M4 MacBook Air, in both its 13- and 15-inch glory. It’s also got a new sky blue colour option, perhaps to match the Ultramarine blue of the iPhone 16. But more importantly, it has a lower starting price than its predecessor.
The entry-level model has an M4 chip with a 10-core CPU and 8-core GPU, 16GB of unified memory, and 256GB of storage. It can be further configured with a 10-core GPU (matching the base 14-inch MacBook Pro) with 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.

The rest of the specs are in line across the board with last year’s iPad Airs, including screen sizes, display resolution and the refresh rate, which is still capped at 60Hz. You get a pair of 12MP cameras, Apple Intelligence and a USB-C 3.1 connector. Apple did not update the Wi-Fi 6E or Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. Touch ID is still present inside the power button.
The other new bit is the updated Magic Keyboard, which now boasts a larger trackpad and a new row of function keys. All that being said though, the M4 MacBook Air is an incremental upgrade to what came before, and as you can tell, the M4 chip is the specific upgrade in question. For whatever reason, Apple is still using its very first M1 as a comparison point, and says that the M4 is twice as fast, as opposed to the 60% increase of the M3.

As mentioned before, the upgrades chip also brings with it the related benefits such as better multi-display support. And with generative AI being the hottest tech trend right now, Apple Intelligence also comes as part of the package.
There’s also the 12MP FaceTime camera which now supports Center Stage. The 13” model with 128GB storage is going for $799/€949/£799 and $949/€1,119/£949 for the cellular version. Pre-orders are now open, with first deliveries scheduled for March 12.
